Re: Grape Pomace
Most wineries dump it on their fields. I worked at one winery that had an auger when we emptied the press and guys would line up in their trucks and we'd augur it in their truckbed for free. If your not looking for truckloads it might be worthwhile trying to hook up with someone in the amateur winem...

Re: Aguardente Bagaçeira
I lived in Portugal for 3 years, NZ Chris' link is very accurate. One point I would make that I did not see mentioned is that Aquardente in my area was double distilled. The harshness seems to mellow with age Ive had some older stuff that had the flavour with none of the burn. The stills in my area ...

Re: Odin's Easy Gin
Hey Odin finally made a 4L test batch the other day, had some as it was coming out of the still and was happy. Now a couple of days later I couldnt be happier. Great flavours and theres a lot of beauty in simplicity thanks a bunch.

I was under the impression that a small percentage of the starch would be converted to fermentable sugar during the fermentation process. This is what I am banking on for the end results. If my results show less than 0.5% ABV difference in the mash's then in my mind it dosent make a difference. But ...

My experiment preposal. Determining effectiveness of Beano
Hey guys things have finally slowed down with school and Im running out of UJSM that I made this time last year. Ive been reading a lot about beano and want to see how effective it is at converting starches to fermentable sugars. Although from what ive read Beano only works to break down complex sug...

Firefly I run the same still and had the same problem as you, in order to get to the 92%+ ABV range I would have to spend many extra hours running the still. I settled on having a final product in the 87% ABV range, it was the best time/quality trade off for me. I broke my thermometer a long time ag...

I think for most users here you'll find something like that is more of a novelty item. With something like that your probably just going to be looking to make vodka. Cut offs would not be real precise but the first stuff that comes off is not going to be good. You could be real conservative and take...

I really like the idea of this. I have no source for aged white oak (that I know of) and I am only good at building things that only consist of 2x4's, plywood and screws. This might be a good idea to build as a little business. Im looking at buying a barrel right now, here in Canada I can get a new ...

Finally got around to making this, made a raspberry and blueberry. The blueberry really dosent have a whole lot of flavour (used frozen fruit for both) but the raspberry flavour really comes through and its a nice drink. I am looking for a woman with a morally casual attitude to test its panty dropp...

Fermentations that take months are generally due to lack of nutrients/stressed yeast. Like Husker said if you can rack it off the lees into a carboy great. If you want to get fancy and throw some sulfur in there that will help to. Sulfur (also known as SO2, K-Meta, Potassium Metabisulfite, Camden ta...

Havent used one but you dont want a water distiller off the shelf your looking for something like this. Plastic and stills are not usually a good combo.
