...hmmm. i made the plates and the cuts for them right off of the template "mini-still" pdf. did i do something wrong? it seemed to work very well.
condensificator wrote:i did get a really good takeoff rate, it was a very steady dribble, almost a stream, and i pulled 1qt of heads, 6qts of hearts, and 3qrts of tails in about 7-8 hours. i have an 8 gallon milk can boiler with a 1500w electric hotplate. had about 6.5 gallons of 80 proof vodka that i was refining. column packed with copper mesh. seemed about right from my other experiences, but as you know, i'm green.
i forgot to mention again, that i had already pulled a quart of heads and 3 more quarts after that when i gave up on this same run the first time. i don't know if that factors into anything?

the fruity stuff is cheater style. i just used high proof, then flavored syrup from monin to get it down to 100p. when i found that stuff, i was thinking about trying to do a real orange infusion and surfing the cointreau website to see if i could learn anything. they had a recipe that called for the violet, and the color is unreal...i had to give er a try. it went really well, and my tasters all really liked it, so i got a couple more flavors. passion fruit, peppermint, blue curacao, elderberry and blood orange. i know it's all cheating, but it's fun. i am still more interested in doing the real deal, like the spiced "corsair," and bourbon. i have done cherry, apricot, blueberry, strawberry and melon soaking dried fruit with good results. that's one of the elders' methods they showed me. got a full 6 gallon carboy of old wine from one of the elder's friends to make the brandywine, and it is very nice, i was surprised at how much flavor came across from the pot. learning how to do rum is on my list, i'd like to do the corsair with a rum base rather than neutral. i tried, and it was a total failure. i think the molasses i got must have had preservatives in it, it would ferment for a few hours, then just plain stop. a lot of oils on the surface, and it was pretty unpleasant smelling, not like the shit i stole out of my wife's pantry. i've got to slow down for now and get back to work!

Cheers for that. Can't recommend rum highly enough as a second step. Easy (once you sort out your molasses), fast, teaches good habits with cuts, tastes great white, and the flavours just keep getting better as your dunder gets recycled!

So you were maybe just a touch on the slow side, but pretty good all in all! Congrats. I'll stop bugging you now :D

... you know you can press ctrl - a few times and they'll be managable even on low resolutions, right (assuming firefox)? That's what I do on my netbook. :)

wow. i'm not trying to piss you off dude. they were only at 1100 px last time you yelled at me, then i resized them to <800 for you, as i gathered from this thread http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... =35&t=5852 that that's where they should be on this board. that's where they are. is anyone else having a problem with them? if you right click (cntrl click 4 mac) on them, you should be able to get image properties, and there's nothing over 800px???

That's 800px for the largest dimension... It really messes with a 1024 x 768 resolution monitor... It literally stalls the browser...

yep, that's what i figgered, and i DID slip up on the pic of the head, i made the short side 800 by mistake. all others have no dimension longer than 800 pixels high or wide. i fixed it.

Firefox 3.6.8 on a laptop that is maxed at 512M RAM... IE 8 is the same... It doesn't help to use CRTL - because then I can't see the text and it still scrolls WAY too slow... As it is I'm running with CTRL +++ a lot of the time because of my eyesight being whacked from my medication and my nose is about 8 inches from the screen... CTRL 0 to normal is the same, which is where it was when I initially posted... There's just no reason to have to use vertical scroll to see images or read posts with normal resolution...

I didn't mean to get upset but I can be of no help and cannot enjoy the work of others when I can't view a topic... I can't be the only one having issues with large images...

Works for me... And I want you to know that I wasn't singling you out, specifically, condensificator... There has been an abundance of posts recently with oversized pictures... And it's not just here in this forum... In fact, I am constantly working with customers on making settings changes to their new digital cameras which are set by default to take 8mpx - 12mpx pictures... The problem with those huge pictures is that they lose clarity when reduced to smaller sizes...

For example, most real estate sites require 320 x 240 resolution pictures, maximum, for upload into property listings... Reducing a huge picture down that far degrades the quality immensely and the edges get extremely coarse... Once I figure out the camera, and teach the real estate agent how to make the size adjustment, their lives become much easier and they have better pictures of the properties they are listing... While some reduction is still required, more quality is retained in the reduction... Better pictures equates to more sales leads...
