GreenMTNfermenter, while you might not want to soak your still components in pure vinegar a 50/50 water and vinegar wash helps clean it... A better question would be to ask your friend why he sees it as such a bad idea and post his opinion here... Some members have used hydrochloric/muriatic acid, sulfuric acid, and others, for cleaning various components... Diluted vinegar is far safer for the home enthusiast than those more caustic and dangerous bases/acids/solvents...

I think one's first one or more distillations should be sacrificial anyway, unless you have very blunt taste-buds.
