Shipping
My mother lives out of state. I would love to send her a couple bottles for her and some close family to enjoy around the holidays. She's in her 70's and would love the hell out of it. I'm sure there are a couple extra laws that would be broken shipping across state lines, but i think packaged and sent as a christmass gift durring the busy season, it may be relatively low risk. Am i just begging for a "dumb ass tax" ? I would appreciate your thoughts and oppinions. Thanks

Re: Shipping
I bought two of those stainless steel bottles with the screw tops, kind of like a sports bottle. Filled em with my UJSM Reserve. The I vacuum packed (I didn't pull a full vacuum) both bottles into one vacuum bag and shipped in a post office flat rate box.

Re: Shipping
I have shipped to my brother using UPS. I filled the containers completely full so no sloshing and packed very tight with those foam peanuts. Had them mark the package "Glassware." It arrived with no problems.

Re: Shipping
Just don't send anything in custom packaging... Nothing throws a red flag like a mason jar labeled "Podunk Panther Piss", or whatever...

Re: Shipping
Would Podunk Prairiepiss be ok?
I'm getting ready to send some and I am putting in in a reg bottle that still has the label on it. I know the seal is broke. But if it gets crushed blame it on them. I use bubble wrap. Peanuts will allow the bottle to migration from the center of th package.

Re: Shipping
Thanks for the input. I was thinking UPS would be a better option than USPS. i would kind of hate to send it in a recycled " store bought swill " bottle. Seems like that would take away from the novelty a bit. I have been using clear 750ml bottles. i picked up a couple of cases from the brew shop. Was thinking i'd wrap them up nice & tight then box em up with packing.

Re: Shipping
It's a good idea to not have a return address that is yours.... Might not be bad to also consider sending to the intended address, with a diff name on it. Have the receiver not be at home and have the package left on doorstep. Have them mark the box RTS as soon as he or she gets it, they will know within 10 minutes of taking it inside if the cops are coming. Make them wait a day before opening. If the cops kick in a door and there is an unopened box with the wrong name, and return to sender, no legit return address, they will have a tough time making a case. No one gets busted, and all you did was donate a buzz to the next cop party...

Re: Shipping
I had a best friend back in HS, he sold pot back then. I went on to college and became a network engineer, he stayed in the same business, and expanded his business over the years. We stayed close the whole time. I never judged his line of work, but got nervous for him as it kept getting more and more serious. It caught up with him eventually, and I will get to see him again in a little less than 5 years.Prairiepiss wrote:J3ff sounds like you know a bit about shipping stuff.![]()

Re: Shipping
I don't know the legalities and use it as a crutch to tell people who want a sampler that it is an offence that could damn me to jail if anything went awry. As far as I remember anything potentially toxic or explosive is to be declared and shipped by ground only.
I have never done it "yet" but if I did me thinks a plastic booze container inside a larger well packed waterproof container and double vacuum wrapped would be good to go. I say this because of the holds on many container aircraft may not be pressure controlled.
Most newer aircraft that transport humans and animals have STP (Standard Temperature and Pressure) throughout the vessel but the smaller ones or cargo only may blow up beer bottles in the luggage hold. I traveled for a living and know this first hand after unpacking my very wet stinky suitcase.

Re: Shipping
KY1792, the more you make it look like you are trying to protect or disguise a packed item the more suspicion it will attract... The best method would be to use packaging for wine or fruit drink and ship it like that is what it is... And perhaps make an attempt to have the bottle look factory sealed, either with colored foil or shrink wrap to conceal a broken seal...
Don't attract suspicion... And remember, when you sign for shipment you are giving the shipper consent to open and inspect the contents of any package at their discretion without notification...

I never tried to hide it never tried to hide it, at the time there was no need to spy it, just saying one airliner is not the same as an another may be weak. An uncompressed hull of broken booze bottles havoc will wreak.

This is a good reminder to go back and read the rules that we have read in the past but do not visit often enough!Tater wrote:rule 6. Re: Shipping
For shipping UPS or FedEx - UN Class 3065 - Alcoholic beverage of less than 70% ABV, packaged in 5ltrs or less container is a non restricted material. It can go by air transport cargo or passenger.
Even if you tell them it is beverage alcohol, they will accept it and with no additional hazmat fee.
U.S. Postal Service say, "Don’t send alcohol. And, in most cases, don’t send prescription drugs, cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, or handguns.
Alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, or liquor) are not considered hazardous but can’t go in the mail. If you’re reusing a box displaying their alcohol brands, all logos and labels need to be covered up."
I have worked UPS and FedEx airfreight and thousands of cases of booze go through there on airplanes every night.
Ahhhhhh...all large aircraft, cargo and luggage holds are pressurized, and if they were to become unpressurized at altitude, nothing will explode. It's a movie myth! I've been in the back of cargo aircraft at 40,000 feet and looked through the cracks around the cargo door.
Now, most cargo aircraft are not heated. At altitude on a eight hour flight, the cargo may get down to freezing. I've never seen anything inside a freight aircraft freeze. And most freighters are heated because they usually have animals onboard, other than the crew...
I use recycled commercial booze bottles. State tax Seal or not is of no consequence...not all states use a seal. And your not selling it, your sending a present.

Re: Shipping
In Canada, it has to be sent in a metal box/container packed with sawdust and then wrapped in cardboard or some such thing ... I just sent a friend some alcohol tincture and that's how I did it. Completely compliant with the laws of the land

I do all my own stunts
