Cooking with still pot
Quick safety question. After doing a run through a pot still with a SS pot, would it be safe to cook food in the pot after a thorough cleaning? I have a decent cooking pot that I could easily attach fittings to make it into a very basic pot still. However, if I can't use the pot to cook with in between still runs then ill just need to get another pot cause, umm....it's my wife's good cooking pot

Luckily the lids have a 3/4 hex hole in the top that the handle/vent knob screws onto. I can remove the handle, insert a gasket and a 3/4 male copper fitting through the hole, place another gasket on top and screw on 3/4 female copper fitting soldered onto my tubing. It would be completely removable and leave no signs of tampering

I read a post about using cardboard and teflon tape that I am going to re-read before making the gaskets. That is what I planned on using.

Its only about a 4 - 5qt. It will do until I can find a bigger one. I just emailed a guy selling 12qt industrial cooking pots to see if he would sell them individually.

Re: Cooking with still pot
If that's the case then you just hatched a bad idea all by yourself... Take some time to do plenty of research here and you'll find that you really need a larger boiler, even if you're just tinkering for shits and giggles... An 8 liter/quart boiler is pretty much the absolute minimum and most here would say 12 - 16 or bigger... When starting out you need to have enough boiler charge to practice determining what's going on... If the boiler is too small you won't have time to notice and everything will end up all mixed together...furios82 wrote:Actually, I do not have cable or satellite so I can not watch the Discovery Channel.
I have a stock pot that I can fit 8 liters into and successfully run, but I started out with substantially larger and know what to expect and have adjusted accordingly... But I still have to be on my toes at all times...
