Copper at Lowe's

Post by Bushman »

I just saw at our local Lowe's they are closing out on their 10' x 2" copper pipe (was $197.00 now $118) not that I'm looking :moresarcasm:

Too bad you dont have a Menards around by you. Their L or M 2" is usually around $105 and they also carry DWV which is still plenty thick enough for around $85.00 for a 10 ft section.

I was at Menard's last weekend for fence parts - but for some reason I always go look at the copper - and prices are up a bit to around $129.

I usually buy it at our local hardware store as I can purchase by the foot but since lowe's is across the country thought this might be helpful for some folks!

Best to just get the DWV type anyways. Its still plenty thick enough for our application and its always a lot cheaper than L or M (red/blue). You can tell that its DWV by the yellow markings on it.

Im actually stopping at Menards today - I'll check out the current prices for DWV. Granted it wont help people out that much who dont live in the upper Midwest, but it will at least give people and idea of how much cheaper DWV is. Then the trick is just finding somewhere local that carries it.

Menards is nationwide... We have one here, right down town... Pricing should be fairly consistent...

So I made a quick stop at Menards after work today to check the prices for those who wanted to know.

All 10 foot sections:
Type L - $108.00
Type M - $97.99
DWV - $88.99

Lowes and Home Depot cant come close to beating those prices.

I was just at Lowes. picked up 10'x2" type L for $69 +tax. They had it on sale as a close out item. The 2" dwv was 65+.

Couple years back, new menards opened, about 5mi closer to me than the others. 2"K $65 (10') DWT 89. I walked past a couple times thinking misprint. It was not. I bought the 4 sticks they had in stock. Still have almost 20' left, and full 10' and a pair of 5' sections. Also have 3 or 4 feet of smaller, 6" to 18" stuff.

Deals like that do not come around much. but when they do, you have to snap them up.

When I first started this post it looked like our local Lowe's was closing out their 2" and was going to keep my eye on it but got to busy to check back. Great scores, I am currently going a different route on my next build but having extra copper around is always a good idea!

I forget what the posted original price was, but i think it was closer to the $118 than the $197. Not sure if geographic area has anything to do with price, but i wouldn't think so.

I went in looking for a condenser/circulating pump. The last time i ran, i filled the ditch with water. My neighbor called to ask if I had a flooded basement. He's a friend & knows what i'm up to but i still like to lay low. Also hate wasting water. Anyway, i was glad i checked it out. It feels good to be gathering parts :esmile:

Your post for $65 got me wondering so I stopped in at our lowe's and they have one 2" x 10' left and the price still says $118.00 marked down from $197. You probably got one that was marked wrong! :D

Our local Menard's is listing 2" x 5' DWV online for $40.99 and 2" x 10' for $88.99. I believe I'll have to stop by after work tomorrow and see if they actually have it in the store. It might be special order. That 5 footer sounds mighty fine to me!

It scanned at the register the same as it was marked on the shelf. They had probably 6 -10 lengths of each, the dwv & type L. They sure seem to make up for it on their fittings though ! Now I have to go back for a second look (and some more parts).I suppose they could have marked it down twice by mistake. Good help is hard to find, not that i'm bitchin !! The kid with the price gun is probably working on a new build. Or maybe your store has it wrong

Probably should call Lowes before driving a long distance, my local store has never had any copper pipe larger than 1" and all their copper is priced very high  .

If it helps anyone, Lowe's will price match a competitor. Home Depot probably does too, but I can't say for sure. I'm a residential construction contractor that works in an area were Lowe's is usually the closest place when I need something right now. However, Home depot or a building supply yard may have better prices on certain item, like copper pipe, etc. In my personal experience, I've just asked the workers at Lowe's that so-and-so sells this item for X amount less, can you match it?-they have always said yes and change the price at the register. I just recently did this to get 2" DWV copper there for $90 for 10' (Home Depot Pro's price) instead of $118. Since HD is another 15 minutes down the road, I saved on gas and more importantly, 30 minutes of my time. BTW if you see 10 feet of 2" copper for $65, buy it! That's below cost!

Don't know where you are located, but around here, those prices are what's known as "stealing". Buy it now! 10' of L is over $100 for a single piece even at a contractor-only plumbing wholesaler. DWV is $90. It's probably worth that much as scrap.
