Moonshine to whiskey

Hello all,
i am yet to start distilling anything and was wondering if I could make moonshine and add whiskey essence to it afterwards to make is taste and smell like whiskey?

I think yer gonna find that most around here are not to keen on using "essences", when you can make better than
that by yerself. In fact, making yer likker taste like you want it is really half the fun so why would you want to stop
after makin yer shine. Slow down, read the site, ask questions. There's a ton of experienced fellers in here who are a

Put it on oak for a while. And the you would have. Oak aged whiskey.

Moonshine = sugar wash distilled all the way
Moonshine vodka = sugar wash distilled all the way then diluted.
Moonshine whisky = corn wash distilled to 40%

The term moonshine is given to illegally made whiskey. The fact that sugar is used has nothing to do with it being called moonshine. Sugar is used because it is quicker and easier.

there was sugar and not bad price,, just not much, maybe 5 lb a month.and most was "horded" for preserves. "moonshine" was made with local ingreadeants it mite be fruit,grain,berries,molasses depending on your local.200-300 mile shipping was a weeks worth of driving a truck.those that made "sugar shit"was in the "mafia" and most likely they hijacked a truck and that was one of the "blights" of the cities.

no your making "moonshine" but not whiskey.
whisky can only be made from grain.
brandy is made only from fruit.(sugar can be added after)
rum is made from sugar/sugar products.
vodka can be made from anything distilled until no flavor or no recognizable flavor is left.

You see, this explains your lack of understanding... It would be "moonshine"... Whiskey has a whole separate set of guidelines which must be met in order to be called whiskey, or any other legal spirit for that matter... And whiskey isn't just made from corn... Hence my comment... Don't mistakenly confuse illegal "moonshine" with legal spirits... This is all covered on the parent site, in these forums, and all across the internet on trusted reliable sites... There's no need in reiterating the guidelines for each specific type of legal distilled spirit here... In it's simplest definition, the term moonshine can refer to any unaged illegally distilled spirit... Aging and diluting to drinking strength is required in order to meet the guidelines of most all legal spirits aside from vodka, grain alcohol like Everclear, and neutral spirits used in the making of liqueurs...

no your making "moonshine" but not whiskey.

Moonshine refers to the illegal process. But just because you're making moonshine doesn't mean you're making whisky.
That is what I meant. Whisky means grain. Vodka means neutral or potato. Moonshine means illegal.
The other chap implied that all moonshine is whisky which is untrue.

If you are making it. You can damn well call it what ever you want to call it. Who is gona stop you from calling it that?

But if you want a whiskey type drink. Like a commercial whiskey. It should be made with grains. Either mashed or sugarhead. Then aged properly. Call it whatever you want. Moonshine whiskey, whiskey, faux whiskey, prairiepiss, or whatever. It doesn't really matter. And if you were to get busted. Hopefully not. The ATF and news media is gona call anything you have moonshine. No matter how its made or what its made out of.

yes..but if every one starts making up there own names for things then they
will be the only ones that know what there talking about.
