Yesterday was spent at Busch Gardens with friends, I watched while they did all the crazy rides. Last night we drove 3 hours to Northern Virginia near DC. Today we visited the gravesite of a friends husband in Arlington cemetery. He died flying a fighter jet up the Columbia River in 1991 while training. He had a mechanical failure while flying low to the water at 90 degrees with his wing tip down and caught his wing on the water causing the jet to flip. The changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier was also very moving.

Yesterday I travelled through 7 states plus DC. Dropped my son off at Reagan National airport and picked up our cousins from Norway in Newark. While traveling through Delaware I stopped at an Apple store and bought the new IPAD with 4G and 64GB. Delaware has no sales tax so I guess you can say I saved some money.

Today we will walk the freedom trail and study some more history about our nation.

Today we did a harbor tour of Boston Bay, had lunch at the Cheers bar, and dinner at the oldest restaurant in America "union oyster house". Tomorrow it is off to Plymouth and the Cape.

A bit muggy today, but the weather is still mighty fine. Safe travels! I know it's way out of your way, but there is a great little distillery/brewery on Nantucket. They probably sell their product on the cape. They were the first licensed distillery in New England since prohibition.

Today we travelled to Lancaster, PA to show our Norwegian cousin's the Amish and how they live. Today it was 91 degrees and a very dry heat way different than the NW.

Rad, I tasted the shoo-fly pie today served by an Amish gal, she asked if I wanted it served warm. I asked if that was traditional and she said the Amish serve it cold with milk poured over it. I said then that is the way I want it, very good thanks for introducing me to a new experience.

Kind of a convoluted trip we are back in Virginia at Alexandria with our cousins planning on touring the White House and the Pentagon. Yesterday we toured Mt. Vernon. Our trip down from Boston via Plymouth and Lancaster, PA we encountered one toll for a total of $1.00. Our trip up we paid over $40.00 in tolls with one bridge crossing at $12.00.

Was the stillhouse on the tour at Mt. Vernon? I think I heard somewhere that they were actually running it and producing whiskey from Washington's original recipe.

Yes, but we were in a time crunch and the tour of Mt. Vernon was over 3 hours.

Today we toured the Pentagon with my wife's cousin who is an officer in the Air force stationed at the Pentagon and also the Capital building. It was nice having a personal tour and not being with large groups.

Yesterday toured the White House and the American History Museum. Today I am heading to Dover, DE for the day to take in a NASCAR race. Monday our Norwegian cousins will spend the day on the trolley tour while my wife and I do some genealogy research with the help of the Daughters of the American Revolution as she has relatives that fought with General Herkimer in New York.

...Dogfishhead brewery is right on the Deleware seacoast ...prolly worth a stop.

After the NASCAR races trying to get out with 120,000 people was crazy so we pulled into a restaurant to try and wait the crowd out and have some dinner. Although I didn't get to the brewery I did order a Dogfishhead 60 minute IPA. Tasted pretty good but my favorite East Coast beer thus far has been a Sam Adams Red Brick. Hard to find outside of Boston. I have to admit that I won't have a chance to try all the east coast beers!

Spent yesterday with my wife researching her heritage at the "Daughters of the American Revolution" building. She has two direct ancestors that fought in the Revolutionary War. For us to get accepted she has to have proven documentation all the way back to her and since no one has done it yet we have a large task ahead. It has to be a direct desendant no cousins, uncles, etc.

Last night we had a nice dinner in Old Town Alexandria, afterwards I walked along the waterfront looking at all the boats and I am about ready to get home and get back out on my boat. Great way to relax and spend our last evening here. Today we head back north and drop our car off in NJ and take a cab to NY. I got stuck in New York on our way to Boston and am not keen on driving in the city again. Last 5 days will be spent at a condo in NY.

Dropped the car off in Newark, NJ at the airport and took a cab to NY. Cab, tolls, and tip came to $100.00. Our condo is on the 21st floor with a roof top access on the 50th floor. We have a deck off the living room and we look out at the Empire State building. Last 5 days of the journey!

The Sam Adams Brick Red is only sold in Boston bars and gets dumped every third day ie: New keg monday new keg thursday

Today we did a city and boat tour of Manhattan, spent time at ground zero, very moving experience.

Today we will go uptown Manhattan shopping and tonight we have Broadway tickets to see Chicago!

I gave these guys a call yesterday hoping I would have a chance to meet, talk, and tour their facility while in NY but they never got back to me. Still hoping they will call today however not expecting it on a Saturday. It is worth looking at their website but also watching their video.

Tomorrow is my last day on vacation although it has been a great time I am ready to get home and get some things done. Thanks to all that have been following the blog and especially the members that have made suggestions for me!
