With your skills you should seriously consider something like a yurt. Haul it in the trailer and throw it up when you get there...we have them here at some of our campsites and they are awesome. Kind of a tent but waaaaay better...

Used to go tent camping years ago.
Moved along to camping on the motorbike. One step away from self imposed exile.
Then got a camper/rv/motorhome and went around Australia.

Took the kids tent camping over the last easter break. Just to show them what real camping was like.
All I did was re-affirm I don't really like tent camping.

I've gotten lazy. I want to pull up. Unhook. Pull the bikes out. Level it up. Put the awning out. And sit down.

I've got a 19' awning that needs a new canvas and one arm. Some cabinets to go in the front. I just put a screen on the back cargo door. I have a rv door to cut down and put in the side. Need to plumb the LP for the heater. Wire it for electricity. Insulate the roof, walls, and floor.

I plan to build in fold down beds. Fold down legs for the cargo ramp to make a back porch. I just installed a screen over the back door. 9'X7' this is nice.

I can haul 4 bikes or one small car with it. With 13 recessed D rings in the floor. Oh and lay tile on the floor.

The kids can put the tent up and sleep in it.

Empty. Last year was the first year we didn't ride our bikes for our fall run to Arkansas. Normally we would pack down the bikes and ride. I pull a trailer with mine. But it was so much nicer to pull the trailer with the bikes in it. I'm spoiled now.

We took the kids on a canvas holiday a few years back. Drove all the way to the maritime park on the italian coast. What surprised me was the italians that came up in camper vans. Set up and then unloaded flower boxes full of growing plants - instant herb garden right outside the kitchen door. :)

I do love packing the bike, big ride, good destination and live off the land- aka, wallet. Nothing like a weekend of greaseball burgers, bike racing, expensive cans of coke, and a strange smelling tobbacco thingy sort of stuff wiffing through the campground and real smelly socks at the end.
Well there's no room for soap on a bike, is there. Of course, on this pefect weekend, the missus and kids are not there.

My old bus was a Toyota Coaster sort of bus. Had solar, 12v fridge, TV (a 12v CRT style), dual batteries, gas cooker (that was also the heater), and bedside tables- a concession for the wife.
One thing I did that was real good, was made provision for ventilation to the pillow end of the bed in the form of a 12v computer chip fan (very quiet) and a duct. This stopped us waking up with "tent head" or "hangover head". I could even charge my motorolla tele-tac 2000 analouge mobile phone on the run. That was over 10 years ago. Now days you can get anything you want in 12 volt, and your phone only needs a good charge before you leave.
You can even get class D chip amps running from 12 volt that give good home stereo systems a good run for their money, and consume next to nothing power wise. And LED lighting is real good.

In retrospect, one thing I would do if I made another bus/camper/RV, would be to make some sort of veiwing platform on the roof. You know, somewhere to put some deckchairs and and umbrella, and use it for watching sunsets and motor racing. I saw one guy that did it to his, and I noted it. He was at a bike race at Phillip island, him and his buds were having a wow of a time sitting up on top of the camper, esky full of beer, reclining deck chairs, loving life. They had the best veiwing point by far.

Anyway, enjoy the veiw.

Used to do a lot of tent camping, got some great memories! Today if I'm not living on the boat I am staying at a condo while away from home. My neighbors kid me as we live at a vacation home on a lake but the wife and I like to travel, seems like when your home there are always jobs to be done.

Just saw a sign here at the park. They have yurts to rent. But I'm content with what I got. RVing Redneck style. Got the BarBQ grill and all. Bout to throw some steaks on it for dinner. Only thing missing is a still. :problem: You mite be able to see in the pic the hail damage on the side of the trailer. The reason I got it so cheap. 21 footer for less then 4k. Mount me a couple AC units on top and het a quite generator. And I will be up town.

You aren't nearly as big a redneck camper as this guy:

Wow, that must have been one hail of a hail storm. Blowing sideways! Still looks like you got a good deal. Steaks look good, You have me itching to go camping now.
I'm doing my first "spirit run" (all the feints I have saved up) tomorrow. Maybe I'll pack some of that up and go to the lake next weekend. This website inspires more than just making booze!

It got up to 100 f here today. We tore down camp earlier thar we ever have before. Got stuck behind a big truck and couldn't get any air so the suburban decided to get hot. Had to pull over for a bit. It tan like crap this whole trip. My pore old suburban is getting old. Had 140k on the odometer and was broke when I bought it. So I don't know how many actual miles it has. Hell I drove it 130miles a day every day for a year and a half. AC works great buy if I use it I can't get from gas station to gas station with the trailer on the back if I use it.

Got home to a less then half full pool. The neighbors back yard got flooded. So I spent the evening draining it and trying to level the ground better. It's freakin hot out here. I think I'm done for the night. I will try to catch up on some stuff around here tomorrow.

But I did have a good time at the lake. Nice to get away from it all.

Hey empty, we went through the rain thing a week ago, we just had 90f temps. Our nieghbors to the west of us in Minnesota got 10" of rain in 24 hrs, water was so bad it was pushing man hole covers off thier storm drains.
It is what you make it

We have come out of 10 years of drought. You know what they say, all droughts end in rain.

We are back to the traditional rain here- rain for 360 days of the year, then drips from the trees for the other 5.

Anyway, PP, I hope the break was good. Even if the old suburban gets 2 gallons to the mile with air on.
