na you might as well use it.

Just don't go upto 25%, keep it at about 12% in your wash.

Yeast is yeast, although talk to him about if he distills, and what he uses, see if he is usefull or not

at least he didn't sell you Turbo yeast....

You don't need to go to the homebrew store to get Redstar. Just go to the grocery store. Or if you want it in bulk, got to Sams or Costco.

The brew shop guy sounds kinda like a drug pusher, giving out free samples hoping you'll get hooked and come back and pay dearly for more...

That's San Diego Super Yeast, a perfectly good strain. It ferments to 21%, not 25%. It's a neutral yeast and produces little characteristic compared to all the other beer strains.
The still is not a liar. Mash and ferment quality is 99.9% of your performance.

ditto the above, is a cracking little strain, can be a bit of a princess but treat it right and can do some excellent barely wines etc, so ideal for whiskeys etc i would imagine

think someone was using it on the homebrew forum with great results- just be sure to breed it up and get a few backup samples/slants for making fresh starters up before letting it loose on a high abv mash
Q: What do you call a scotsman thats given up drinking?

No need to buy the expensive yeast. Like aj2456 said you can "breed it up"
Check the beer brewing forums for yeast breeding.

I'm working on some yeast as I type... I just had a 5 gallon batch of multi-grain cereal sugarhead finish the other night, racked it into gallon jugs immediately, cold crashed the jugs, racked into new jugs, and collected the yeast into another jug... Once it settles again I'll remove the excess wash and top with water and a bit of sugar... Then I'll pop it back in the refrigerator until I make my next wash... Should have about a half gallon of yeast slurry ready to Rock-n-Roll...
