The bumper sticker says he shines responsibly! That justifies the design right there!

Yup, that's real crap alright, the genuine article. Dual glass thumpers too small and not likely heat safe. Crappity crap. Very mal-oderous.

I would hate to be around when one of those jars hits the ground and shatters/splatters everywhere - like the heat source!

That's the scary thing, you know someone is going to buy that crap and sooner or later it's gonna happen.

the bad thing is that design has been discussed around here and the safety concerns brought up but someone still decided to make it and try to sell it

Them glass jars are in metal boxes? I don't see them getting broke in my care, even though I would leave the boxes off. I still have all my kids toys from 40 years ago. Not everyone is clumsy. The lids though... I can't see them being suitable at all. They are mason jars, and I find it odd that nobody here as gone to town on the fact they are not generally suitable. Forget mdpe pet and silicone, these are generally lined with pvc components in plasticiser and it don't get much worse than that. I'm now buying 0.25mm ptfe sheet and lining my jar lids, but I don't know of anyone else doing it right.

Edit: Actually... as they took pipes through the lid they surely did something about the gasket material. Perhaps cleaned it off and added a new gasket I can't comment on

Going to the trouble and expense of putting metal boxes around a glass jar shows there is knowledge of the hazard of the glass. Why not just use a proper thumper in the first place? SS stock pots are cheap.
I don't get it. Not to mention the thumper size is not even close to big enough.

I bet the builder is reading this as we type. Sure hope nobody gets hurt. Show some pride and responsibility.

Im pretty sure not all the models incase the glass "thumpers" - if you can call them that in the metal boxes. This is classic stilldrinking designs, especially the little stove top model. I have thought about giving them a call and just asking what is up with the thought process behind this and even direct them to this site - but as said before, I am sure they are reading this now. They know better - cant be that stupid.

If they go to the effort of implementing a metal box around a glass jar then why don't they just use a metal thumper...??? Glass, and the synthetic lid seal, don't impart any magic into the spirits... Extra work and expense for no obvious reason... So much for not being stupid...
