Quick Question: How to connect to 1/4"OD tubing from Condenser Coil?

I am completing my build of a Stone-Nixon Head with a great coil from one of our members. My Pot still's cooling line are 1/2 inch tubing pushed onto a garden hose connector. I'd appreciate anyone's experience in connecting to the new coil's 1/4"OD tubing?

1. Is there a way to attach a male garden hose connector to the 1/4"OD tubing?
2. I could pull the 1/2" hose off the existing garden hose connector and push it onto the 1/4"OD coil tubing -- maybe using a hose clamp to squeeze it. (I'd really like a more modular setup.)

I know some one of you probably have a ready answer for this question. Thanks!

Compression or flare fitting to MIP with suitable hose fitting. Or compresion or flare to 1/2 compersion or flare with srub of pipe to slide hose over and clamp.

I used their contact form tonight to ask if I've correctly interpreted their copper fitting terminology to find my solution :

"— Use your 3/4" x 1/4" FTGxC Reducer (SKU: WP02-12-04) to connect to the 1/4” copper coil and sweat that into your 3/4" Copper x Male Adapter (SKU:WP4-12) to be a male garden hose connector?"

I'd may my own 1/2" - 1/4" adapter much like I make my 1/4" inside 1/2" liebigs... The same can be done going from 3/4" - 1/4"... I don't buy any adapters I can make...

VA I use those on my boka but be warned they are cantakerous and prone to dripping by way of the fixed point in the compression ring and the necessity to screw the hose end on. The same on a male end teamed up with a washing machine hose would help but I haven't found one locally in that configuration. I would like to use quick attachments next try.

grainger was the easiest picture to find. keep looking the fittings i have are 90 degrees and were considerably less than $8

Some of this is a result of wanting to reuse cooling lines currently used with the Potstill's liebig condenser's GHT connections.

I noticed Sharkbite makes a push-fit dishwasher GHT elbow connector but I'd want the cooling line to hang straight down, not bend with an elbow connector.

Maybe use this push-fit reducer connector to connect to the 1/2" poly lines to base of the column, maybe secure to rim of keg for stability, and use a GHT connector there.

Should be something in my small scale combo topic regarding my LM product liebig, linked in my signature... I've also made copper washers and soldered to larger and smaller copper in place of using a reducer... Seems like no matter how many copper fittings I keep on hand I never manage to have the exact one I want/need so I bang one out rather than heading to several different hardware stores to find exactly what I'm looking for...

Here is another way, not pretty but works. It 3/8 od krimped onto 3/16 od. Sorry for the crappy pic hope you can get the idea.

Hope this is not stating the obvious...with 1/4" tubing you need 1/8" fittings. Due to the fact that hard pipe is specified ID, and coiled copper tubing for AC/water etc is specified OD. But 1/8" fittings are hard to find, I have typically ordered them online. If you do have 1/4" available just cut off some short sections of 3/8" coiled copper. With my cutter, the ends get a little crimped by cutting. So they kind of snug fit on the 1/4" tubing and can be soldered. Then use your 1/4" fittings from there. Or use 3/8" diameter vinyl hose which is what I do, it slips right over 3/8" copper tubing.

So your thought , to restate for my understanding , is to slip 3/8" copper tubing over the 1/4", sweat it/solder it, and then use 3/8" poly tubing over that (maybe using a hose clamp to secure it), right.

I see where the 3/8 tubing overlay would give it some rigidity too.

I took a copper hammering class last spring so I can make bowls and cups. I learned how to join copper to make a kettle. But time ran out before I could get the instructor to show how to draw out and narrow a tube diameter -- so to make your own reducers/ couplers as RAD suggests.

Yes exactly. Here is a pic showing the whole thing, this black hose is a washing machine supply hose that I cut. I use it to rinse stuff. When I am doing a run I just hook it up like this. 3/8 copper on both ends. I don't use hose clamps. But you could.

I have a couple questions about your crimping technique:
1. How did crimp the larger pipe around the 1/4"OD tubing without crushing it? Did you find a solid bar or drill bit the same 1/4"OD and crimp around that first?
2. Did you insert a drill bit into the 1/4"OD tubing to support it while crimping the larger around it?
3. Perhaps you annealed the larger tube first to make the crimping easier??

These are my thoughts how you might have done that without damage to the smaller tubing.

Yep, that's the one... I used pliers like these... The 1/2" was annealed on the ends... The 1/4" was not...

most useful tool for joining copper tube that I have is a cheap swaging tool. I can make smll tubes bigger to go inside larger tube, Join tubes without couplings etc.

Along the same line but the exact opposite, I wonder if there's a tool to shrink one diameter to a smaller one. I know copper can be manually worked, but my Hammering Copper class instructor didn't show us how to shrink a pipe from one size to a smaller. He did it for me to make a piece of 2" Sched M fit a triclamp ferrule tighter to braze, but i never tried it during the class.

I was thinking this just because the 1/4"OD stuff is so think to begin, that it might be better to shrink a larger diameter to fit.

used it to transition from 1/4 to 3/8 on this condenser I made for a friend, right about the flimsy 1/4 wont stay leak free with compression fitting very long for me. don't know about making tube smaller haven't tried. might have to go play... oh and \I got mine at Home depot.
