Anyone have Halloween plans?

Post by Peter_Muir »

The holiday isn't huge here in Australia which is unfortunate for my family as we love Halloween/Samhain/All hollows eve. Last year we bought $40 worth of packaged lollies and no one knocked.

What are everyone's plans?

We don't get knockers at AKAAB Acre. Might have to go Trick-or-Drinking at the neighbor's house later.

I've never had Trick-Or-Treaters anywhere I've lived... Even left a big bucket of candy out on the front porch of one house and I don't think anyone even stopped by to take one piece out of it... Heck, I'd have taken the whole damned bucket... :lolno:

We always buy candy but seldom get more than one or two kids, but we stay home because we know if there are kids out this is a big night for them!

Out at the campgrounds, we have an annual halloween (Samhain) event day. That was Saturday. Had food event from 1 to 3. Then a kids costume judging 3:30 to 4. Then we had kids all through the park from 4 to 6:30. I signed up to drive a hay rack, but by the time I got in, the racks were all mounted up, and gone. So I sat with my daughter, I was sipping apple pie, and we handed out candy to about 200 kids. There was then a haunted forest from 7 to 11. My daughter was a 'guide' for that. Then a dance from 10 to 12, but it actually ended about 5:30 or so. All in all, a great time.

Normally we setup a haunted 'tent' in the front yard of the house on the 31st. Tonight is the first nite in 5 years we have not done it. Barb just is not feeling up to it this year. That's too bad. I know she loved doing it. Hopefully it will not be too cold tonight. I think Barb and I will set out on the porch, in costume, and scare the little kiddies when they come up begging for candy  :wtf:

The last eight years or so we have always gone over to an old friends house. On the street I grew up on. She's like a second mom. I spent as much time at her house with her sons as I did at mine.Anyway we take the kids over. While they are out trick or treating we sit them and catch up over a few drinks. She called me out of the blue yesterday. I don't know how she even got my number. But she said she wouldn't be doing anything at her house this year. She's about 80 and its taking it toll on her. So she invited us over to her sons house down the street. She gets a kick out of seeing the kids. So we will be going over there to help make her night a good one. I would love to take her a drink. But her sons are not trust worthy. So I will pass. Maybe I will stop by her house one evening and give her a little gift. When they aren't around.
