How high do put the element
Im building a 3" stainless boka on a keg boiler and will use a 12" 5500 watt element. How far up do I weld the bung in the keg? Im sure the answer is buried somewhere in the posts but I have a limited reading attention span.

Re: How high do put the element
Well, I have read 4 inches. But I have also read that some have wished it was lower after putting it at 4". If I go as low as I can I will still be at about 3.5" with out getting into that ring that is welded to the bottom of the keg. I guess I should have said Im having trouble making a commitment and I wanted someone to hold my hand and tell me it will be ok before I drill this keg.
i by no way meant that the reading here is boring. Its just alot to take in. this is a big-ass messageboard.

I took it more like you didn't want to. And you wanted someone to stick the spoon in your mouth for you.
And I'm not going to hold your hand.
As low as you can without it touching the keg. But you do want a little space under it for the liquid to flow around the element. I would say minimum 1" off the bottom. But that's me.

You don't want that element to touch so I would say 2" off the bottom to be safe.

You owe it to yourself, and the rest of the membership, to do your own independent research to the point where you have a thorough understanding of the WHY behind the WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW... If you don't know this then we're left wondering what else you don't know that will lead to repeated questions which have been answered many many times already... Part of the reason finding answers is so difficult is because too many people have felt that it's alright to ask rather than research... Break the cycle...I guess I should have said Im having trouble making a commitment and I wanted someone to hold my hand and tell me it will be ok before I drill this keg.
