Pond pumps work good as everybody said make sure you get one big enough to to over come the head pressure. I used a Submersible type like you would use to a garden hose on work great for flow but after a hour of continuous running I was putting more heat in the cooler with the pump than I was taking...

My first still is a 3 gal pot still I named it Roscoe because both my grandfather's names are Roscoe and the both made shine back in the day.
My second still is a 10 gal pot still its name is Rebel.

For me 1.040 SG is normal before I pitch yeast. I don't know what your looking for in your finish product or what type rig your planing on using. Thanks it took about 6 hrs on the second run I tried to run it slow I didn't wont to bump it. I think where I went wrong I miss collocated the ABV of my wash. I'm trying to use temp to run my rig with but that's not as easy for me as I thought it would be.

thanks guys its day four and it has stop doing anything sg is .990. I tasted it and it was bitter as hell kinda like bitten into a green persimmon.if any of all ever done that lol. I'm going to wait till tomorrow before I try to do anything to it, the only thing floating is some wheat or barley.

OK I got a chance to look at it a little closer I took the lid off the fermenter AKA 5gal bucket it did not have a head on it but the wash was rolling.I check the SG I'm new at this but the best I could determine it was .990 I didn't check it before I pitched the yeast my mistake.what should it be w...

It's the sweet horse feed recipe the temp is 77f I'll have to check the sg. After reading some I may have pitch the yeast to early I had 90f on the brain I pitch it in at 87f.

Fermentation Question

How long do you wait before you call a wash stuck. Its been working for about 48 hrs and has stop bubbling through the air lock. I started two washes at the same time of the same recipe one is still going I'm getting a bubble about every 10 sec +or - a sec or two.Is this normal or have I got trouble?

KS on the horse feed recipe it doesn't say how much yeast to use I picked up a pack of active dry yeast that has three 7g compartments. will that work and if yes how much do I use?

that's twice you have saved me from a mistake. I could have swore I read to run beer and water on the site somewhere. but I trust ya I sure don't want to screw up my rig I've worked to hard on it for that.

Yes indeed just like branch water lol. Popcorn was a good man "kindhearted" and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. I still have a little of his stuff left about quart I wouldn't part with it for nothing.

Thanks for the info I didn't know if the gasket material would be harmful or give off some foul taste. And I didn't know if elevation matter about distillation process. I'll keep the paste in mind I keep forgetting I'm not dealing with pressure.
