Hi all, i have just logged in and already have questions that i would like answers to! Thats the reason im on this fourm as it seems to be talking all about the things im interested in. You know how it is, u fancy trying a bit of home distilling to see how it goes and it all takes off from there, questions, answers and then more questions. Thats me introduced now so on to the real topics.

Greetings, archie...

Plenty of information here for the reading so start out the proper way and do plenty of research and then ask questions instead of asking question and then doing the research... We see new members take the wrong approach all too often here...

Any ideas as to what types of spirits you're primarily interested in and/or type(s) of stills you plan on using...???

Thanks guys. As im from Northern Ireland or Ireland as some people call it, im paticulary interested in having a go at makeing Poteen (pronounced pot sheen) from barley as we grow barley on our farm. I have a copper pot still almost made that will hold around three gallon and still leave room for the vapour to rise to pass through the copper coil to condense. Its only a small amount to start with to see how it goes. I know how to malt barley but thats it, i dont know anything about adding yeast,hops or sugar to make wort as i believe its called so thats why i will be asking questions in the approtiate sections of this fourm. I just cant seem to find a receipe and a method for makeing poteen anywhere, thats another reason for being on this fourm. Doing the research first and questions later is definatly good advice. Thanks.

Do they use hops in poteen? I thought using hops for distilling purposes was not a good thing? I thought they would make it really bitter? And then hard to clean out of the still?

Archie, all those guys are sick! They're in love with comic book and TV sitcom women, although Mary Anne was hot! So, PP, Judy Who?

So Archie, tell us more about poteen, and I'm like PP, can't really see hops in the equation. I'm a big fan of barley. I do believe it's truely a gift from God. I love making single malt and consuming it.
